    This project was inspired by the Friendship Bench in Zimbabwe, following the Society’s concerns about mental health struggles and domestic violence affecting Black women in Mobile, Alabama.

    Hush harbor is a time space where Black folks gather unto ourselves. This hush harbor is ritual, party, a time for lovin on yourself and replenishing. We are witnesses and agents in the current and those of the past.

    We build equity and solidarity with deliberation and intentionality. We build with the artists with whom we collaborate; the neighbors with whom we trade or work; our residency and training participants; and the consultants who helped to guide us.
