MYTHOLOGY OF
MAIZEY AND WHYLIN WILDIN
Mythology of Maizey and whylin wildin is a full length devised performance work rooted in Blackness, Queerness, theater of the Oppressed and abolition. Through the framework of Joy James’ Captive Maternal and the practice of Conduction by Butch Morris, we use writings, our bodies, sound art and video compositions to create a surrealist environment for the avatars (embodied by the artists) whylin wildin (muthi reed) and Maizey (Sage Crump) imploring intimacies of revolution.
ART JUSTICE ARTISTS IN RESIDENTS AT DOUBLE EDGE
Mythology of Maizey and whylin wildin is a work devised to hold the devastation, intimacy, agency and joy of the times we live in. Through the avatar performance we get to time and form jump, prompted by the whys we implore. Through Blackstudies we channel opportunities for improvising speech and gesture so performance becomes a medium for cultural work.
We channel cultural complexities by writing (writing in a broad sense, including sound and video composing) the subjects we embody– Maizey (Sage) and whylin wildin (muthi). We adorn the drama of how racial imperial capitalism polarizes and domesticates Black life, intimacy, talk, character, space, memory, culture and politic.
